What is a Consultant?

Appointing a Consultant versus Agency to help your business grow.

If you’re looking for external support to help your business grow, you might be considering hiring an agency or consultant to help. Each option has advantages and disadvantages, which is why we offer both: business consulting and a virtual digital agency.

But what is a consultant and how can one help your business?

Consultants are experts within their field and typically appointed to help businesses reach their goals and solve problems. Since consultants do not work within a client’s business, they’re able to provide a fresh perspective without bias towards the organisation, corporate culture, co-worker scrutiny or morale, which uniquely positions them as catalysts for change.

When deciding whether to hire a consultant or agency, keep the following criteria in mind:

  1. Consultants have broader business knowledge than an agency. They are not channel specific or industry specific. They are agile and move quickly to fulfil business requirements.

  1. Consultants often work independently and therefore aren’t blocked by internal red tape.

  1. Consultants are free to position themselves as an integral part of any business team. They can work in a client’s office and be the main point of contact, the one doing the work and managing the outcome. You won’t need to jump through hoops to get in contact with them, nor will you be left with a junior team member after appointing a consultant to your project.

  1. Consultants can provide training, coaching and pass valuable expertise on to business staff. Since they often work within a client’s business, training and coaching are often a subconscious benefit of having them around. Alternatively, many consultants offer a structured approach to training business staff, just like we do at Bubbly. We understand that hiring third parties for on-going management / facilitation of business strategy can be expensive, which is why we will provide the training in-house staff need to succeed.

Consultants are not right for every business, but if you’re looking for leadership, logical reasoning, ingenuity and the ability to affect change: then you may want to consider a consultant as an alternative to standard agencies.

If you’ve identified the need for marketing support but aren’t sure if it’s a Consultant or agency you need, we can help.
